When Pakistani teen-activist Malala Yousufzai was shot in the head by Taliban gunmen simply because she wanted to gain an education it sent shock-waves around the country, Pakistan and across the world. The Western media found yet another issue to sell gory Pakistan to the enlightened Western countries.

Western politicians, human rights organizations and media got involved.  The frantic Western hype for her case did make me question the reasons and motives; feted Malala and trashed Pakistan, to me, is evidence enough of  ‘White Savior complexes” that most Western world suffers from.

Before we go further, let me get it straight that I abhorred the violent attack on the teen-activist and there is no justification that comes to mind for  the brutal attack of Taliban or the denial of the universal right to education for  Pakistani children;  both girls and boys.

Yet as the drama unfolded, I realized the narrative…
